Antonio Silva has a long way back to title shot.

Antonio Silva has a long way back to title shot.

Antonio Silva was unable to beat Cain Velasquez during their second meeting, earlier this year. Now Silva knows that this is going to be a long trip working back to a title shot and becoming an again top contender.  This path starts with Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 33.

“I have a long way to go now,” said Silva, during a recent interview with the Brazilian news source Tatame. “Velasquez was (Fabricio) Werdum, (Daniel) Cormier and Josh Barnett.”

First, Velasquez will face Junior dos Santos in a third encounter. Most feel the winner will get Werdum, who has been willing to wait on the sidelines for his shot at the belt.

In Hunt, though, Bigfoot realizes he has an excellent opportunity to make a year-ending statement.

“I think a win over him puts me right there in the middle again,” he said. “I’m way behind in the line now. There are many people deserving.”
