First Duane Ludwig, then Martin Kampmann, now Justin Buchholz.
After Team Alpha Male founder Urijah Faber shook up its hierarchy in late 2017, the 34-year-old Buchholz has confirmed to both MMAWeekly and MMANytt he’s parted ways with the Sacramento-based camp.
Buchholz had claimed he was no longer the team’s head coach in the wake of Faber’s shakeup, although the latter downplayed the extent of the shift in November.
The longtime head man reportedly stopped coaching at Team Alpha Male after cornering Darren Elkins in his January bout with Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 124, but will continue to work with Elkins and UFC strawweight Cynthia Calvillo, according to MMANytt’s Jim Edwards – much like Ludwig did with TJ Dillashaw and Joseph Benavidez after leaving the team in 2014.
Buchholz has not yet taken his services to another gym but has already fielded several offers. It remains to be seen whether Team Alpha Male will seek a new head coach or stick with an in-house crew of fighters-turned-coaches including Danny Castillo, Chris Holdsworth, and Faber himself.
