Dana White Says Jose Aldo Didn’t Want To Headline UFC Fortaleza

UFC President Dana White says that Aldo versus Moicano should be headlining the card, but Aldo didn’t want a five round fight.

“I agree 100 percent (Aldo should be the main event),” White said at the UFC 232 post-fight press conference. “(Aldo) wanted to be the co-main event. He didn’t want to fight five rounds – he wanted three. … That should be the main event, five rounds – that should be the fight. But he said, ‘I want a three-round fight,’ and you don’t say no to Jose Aldo.”

The event will instead get headlined by a bantamweight division rematch as Raphael Assuncao faces Marlon Moraes.

There are a lot of stakes for that bout as well, with the winner getting a shot at the UFC Bantamweight Title.

“The Assuncao fight is a No. 1 contender fight,” White said.

UFC Fight Night Fortaleza takes place on Saturday, February 2 from the Olympic Training Center in Fortaleza, Brazil with Raphael Assuncao and Marlon Moraes headlining. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
