Dominick Cruz will stay champ

Dominick Cruz will not be stripped of his title.

UFC president Dana White, during recent media events, confirmed the news.

“He’s going to keep his title, and when he comes back, he’ll defend it,” White said.

White did say, however, that if “The Dominator” should succumb to another injury, they may be forced to relinquish his status atop the division.

“We had a great conversation with Dominick,” he said. “He’s good, and he’s feeling healthy, and he’s training again.”

Cruz hasn’t competed since 2011 when he defeated current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

He was coach on the first live season of The Ultimate Fighter with Urijah Faber, however his first knee injury kept him from making the fight.

The replacement ligament used later caused Cruz to undergo a second operation. In the meantime, Renan Barao has won, defended and is scheduled to defend the interim UFC title.

It will be great to see Dominick back in the ring and I highly anticipate a full action packed fight with Renan Barao upon his return.
