Interview with Lana Kate

Interview with Lana Kate

The Fighters Hub caught up with Lana Kate to discuss her upcoming fight at AFC 5 on 10 May.

Lana is currently training her Jui Jitsu at 10th Planet Jui Jitsu Melbourne under Frank Barca.

Check out what Lana had to say:

The Fighters Hub: How did you get involved in MMA?

Lana: I was working at an MMA Gym doing strength and conditioning training so that got me exposed to MMA, I started to train in a few disciplines initially Muay Thai then Jiu Jitsu and it all really built from there. I had my first MMA fight less than 12 month ago at BFW 17 – Brace Girls and then had another fight in Canberra also for Brace. Now I’m ready for my first fight in the AFC.

The Fighters Hub: What sort of a fighter would you say you are?

Lana: I’m trying to be as well rounded as I can, originally I was a stand up fighter but now I’m trying to evolve as much as I can. I am tough and I am dedicated to my training (I train around 36 hours a week). I find the more I get hurt the better I get.

The Fighters Hub: How has your training camp been for your upcoming fight?

Lana: The training camp hasn’t been perfect to be honest; I’ve had a few normal life experiences that have affected me so its been hard to get in to training, add in a few niggling injuries and a bout of illness so its been mentally straining. But the way I look at it I fought through the adversity and it’s made me stronger. Training camps can’t be perfect every time; I’m a bit of a perfectionist but that’s the way it is this time. I have also taken a whole different approach to training this time around so I defiantly have new skills so that is a plus.

The Fighters Hub: Your fighting Amy Adam, what do you know abut her?

Lana: This is the second fight I’ve had with Amy so I know a fair bit about her. She is a nice girl; in Australia there is only a small group of women fighters so we all know each other. I have no doubt she will be hungry and training hard. I fell she has less strength than me but I’m sure she has improved in that area. She’ll be coming to win so it will be tough. It’s going to be a great fight.

The Fighters Hub: What tactics do you plan to employ in this fight?

Lana: I dont talk about tactics prior to my fights.

The Fighters Hub: How do you see the fight going?

Lana: I’m expecting a tougher fight this time around; and the fact that we are fighting in a ring instead of cage makes things interesting. The last fight we had was in cage and we both used that to our advantage. We both have good stand up but the fight could go anywhere. It’s going to come down to who is better on the night.

The Fighters Hub: What can we expect from you in the future?

Lana: I’ve had a lot of opportunities so far so I just want to keep building. I’m 31 years old and a mother so I have to be aware of that but I’ll take what’s put in front of me.

The Fighters Hub: ANyone you’d to thank?

Lana: Yeah I’d like to thank my sponsors: Advance Fight Gear, Nutrition Super Store and CMP Professional UK. Also my trainers who have put in hours of work with me over the past few months and the AFC for giving me the opportunity fight on this exciting card.
