Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal was shocked this past weekend when the judges awarded the decision to Emanuel Newton at Bellator 106. I personally was in shock at his performance as I expected him to come out alot stronger than he did. I only scored 1 round to him through all 5. And that is coming from someone as myself that is a friend of Mo that is saying alot.
Lawal has been working with the Mayweather’s and Roy Nelson at his gym in Las Vegas. Lawal uprooted himself after his knee recovered in 2012 from AKA, where Cain Velazques trains and Daniel Cormier. You would expect his stand up to come after the loss to Newtons ” hit heard around the world” to be much better.
Lawal suffered his second loss to Newton, this time costing him the interim Bellator light heavyweight title. The first meeting ended with the former Strikeforce champ knocked out due to a spinning back fist.
“I could have done more,” said Lawal, during the post-fight press conference. “I felt like I did more damage and I hurt him more. I thought I won.
“It is what it is.”
Lawal will likely head back into another Bellator tournament, looking to secure a future title shot against the winner of Newton vs. Attila Vegh, which will crown the unified champion in 2014.
