Brent Primus and Michael Chandler will soon close the book on their rivalry.
After Primus captured the Bellator lightweight title in surreal fashion this past June, he and Chandler will now run it back to close out a card scheduled for April 13 at The Family Arena in St. Louis, Missouri, the promotion announced Friday following a report from Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting.
Chandler lost the crown to Primus by first-round TKO when he suffered a freak ankle injury at Bellator NYC, but the expected immediate rematch didn’t materialize, with each fighter subsequently accusing the other of ducking. The 31-year-old Chandler – a native of High Ridge, Missouri – got himself back into title contention with a one-sided decision over Goiti Yamauchi at Bellator 192 just last week, while Primus’ reign has taken a back seat to fatherhood of late.
Primus, 32, has won all eight of his pro contests – with six of those victories coming within one round – but has fought only one time per year since 2014.
