Rick Story will step in to face Mike Pyle at UFC 160, after Gunnar Nelson’s recent injury.
The fight takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25 with a heavyweight championship fight between Cain Velasquez and Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva headlining the card. The original booking between Pyle and Nelson was set to be the featured preliminary bout airing on FX in America directly before the pay-per-view.
Story has reminded us all of why he is so dangerous of a welterweight with his crushing first round technical knockout of octagon debutant Quinn Mulhern last month at UFC 158. He is on a six fight win streak and may just be on his way to a title shot. However the UFC’s most talent filled division, was the upset loss that ended it, when he was beaten on a day’s notice by Charlie Brenneman. Story holds victories over top contender Johny Hendricks, Jake Ellenberger and former title challenger Thiago Alves.
Pyle fis nearly in the top ten status in the 170 pound division. The 37 year won all three of his UFC bouts in 2012 by first round knockout or TKO. In his fifteenth year as a professional fighter, Pyle has gone 6-2 most recently with those only two loses coming against current top ten ranked UFC welterweights, Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger.
