If UFC executive Giovani Decker has his way, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s Octagon return will come this March in Brazil.
While finishing things up this weekend at UFC Fight Night 77 from the country, it was confirmed that the March 5 UFC 197 pay-per-view event will take place in Brazil at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
With the timing, it would allow for Silva to fight again. “The Spider” was suspended for a year after a failed drug test his past January following his return bout vs. Nick Diaz. That fight also took place in Brazil.
The most recent UFC PPV from Brazil featured Ronda Rousey defeating Bethe Correia in front of 14,723 fans in August.
Silva, who will turn 41 in April, returned from a year-plus layoff in January when he fought Diaz. He earned a decision win, but that was changed to a no-contest after both fighters failed their post-fight drug tests.
