UFC Fight Night 99 Media Notes

Read up on today’s UFC Fight Night 99 card with media notes from the promotion.

The event features Gegard Mousasi vs. Uriah Hall in the main event.

In the main event, No. 5 ranked middleweight Gegard Mousasi looks to avenge what he terms a ‘fluke’ loss suffered at the hands of Uriah “Prime Time” Hall just over one year ago. Mousasi succumbed to a round two TKO when the pair first met, in what was the Dutchman’s only loss in his last six outings inside the Octagon. Since that fight, Mousasi has beaten some of the middleweight division’s toughest contenders including, most recently, veteran Vitor Belfort, whom Mousasi disposed of inside the second round at UFC 204: Bisping vs. Henderson 2. The Dutch middleweight has made no secret of his desire to fight for the middleweight title in the near future. Standing in his way, however, is Hall, a fighter who is known for his unpredictable knockout power and showmanship inside the Octagon. Will the score be settled or will Hall, once again, derail Mousasi’s hopes for a shot at the middleweight world title?

Since moving his training camp to Dublin’s Straight Blast Gym, Artem Lobov has been welcomed with open arms by Irish MMA fans. Teammate and friend of “The Notorious” Conor McGregor, Lobov also trains under the direction of SBG’s John Kavanagh, who has himself become an iconic figure in the world of Irish mixed martial arts. Home fans in attendance on the night will undoubtedly be hoping for both their adopted countryman to end the night on a high note.

Two of the most highly anticipated bouts set to feature at UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: MOUSASI vs. HALL 2 take place in the UFC’s flyweight division. No.5 ranked Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall returns to action after a period of absence due to injury. He meets veteran Neil “2Tap” Seery in a fight which is set to excite fight fans all over the world. Also taking place in the UFC’s 125lbs division is a matchup between No. 4 ranked Kyoji Horiguchi and No.8 ranked Ali Bagautinov, from Japan and Russia respectively. With everything to play for, all four flyweights will be looking to put on the performance of a lifetime in Belfast.

Two of the 12 bouts set to take place at UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: MOUSASI vs. HALL 2 will feature female fighting talent. Finalist of The Ultimate Fighter®: Team Joanna vs. Team Claudia, Amanda “ABC” Cooper will compete for the first time since reaching the show’s live finale in July. Cooper meets Denmark’s Anna “Panda” Elmose. The fight will take place in the women’s 115lbs division, as Elmose drops down from bantamweight to strawweight for the first time in her UFC career. Also featuring on this exciting fight card is a women’s bantamweight bout between No. 15 ranked Marion Reneau and Russia’s Milana Dudieva. The presence of two women’s bouts on this stacked fight card demonstrates just how far women’s MMA has come and how the demand from fans across Europe continues to grow.

Two UK athletes will make their UFC debuts on the night, as English heavyweight Mark “Hands of God” Godbeer meets USA’s Justin Ledet, and Welsh middleweight Jack “Hammer” Marshman faces Sweden’s Magnus Cedenblad. Godbeer, hailing from Somerset in England, boasts impressive knockout power with not a single one of his professional fights to date lasting the distance. Marshman, meanwhile, is the first ever Welsh fighter to be signed by the UFC. Former Cage Warriors middleweight world champion, Marshman is an exciting young prospect who is hoping to put Wales firmly on the map by dominating in his Octagon debut.
