The UFC have not renewed Roger Gracie’s contract making the multiple time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion a free agent.
The 31 year old lost his sole UFC appearance against Tim Kennedy at UFC 162 last month, dropping a unanimous decision to the former ranger. This was the final fight of a four fight deal Gracie had with Strikeforce that was inherited by Zuffa.
Gracie is 6-2 as a mixed martial artist posting a 4-1 run in Strikeforce prior to his octagon debut. He holds notable victories over Kevin Randleman and Keith Jardine, his loss to Kennedy was his first since a drop to the 185 pound weight class.
The Gracie family’s place in UFC history is assured given Royce’s dominance in early UFC events. However recent success has been hard to come by for Gracie’s, no member of the Gracie family has won in the octagon since Zuffa bought ownership of the UFC.
